Are you considering a move to Georgia? If so, you may be considering “North” Georgia. 🌄But is it really North Georgia? If you ask people who live in “North Georgia” if Canton and Jasper are considered North Georgia, they might emphatically say NO! Often times people think of Elijay and the Blue Ridge Mountains as true North Georgia.
For a mother, wife and entrepreneur, living in Jasper and Canton area is considered a sweet spot, hidden gem, where you get the beauty of less traffic and mountainous outdoorsy lifestyle without the weather and severity of the North Georgia mountains. In this interview Jennifer K. Lewis talks with a fellow real estate agent Tanya Drennan. We discuss the lifestyle of living in Jasper: shopping, daily life, growing kids, school and why they moved there. We discussed the pros and cons of living in Jasper and the great migration to Canton. Canton has become a suburban migration destination as well, for those fleeing the traffic and city.
When you live in Jasper it’s typically for solitude and less traffic congestion to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s a little slower pace in Jasper.
HOW ARE THE SCHOOLS IN JASPER/CANTON? -Pickens county
The class sizes in Jasper are much smaller for more hands on personal care for the students. The schools in Pickens county from Niche.com are rated B-. Tanya shares a personal story about how her child could have had a very unpleasant situation, however due to the personal care of the staff, he was praised and uplifted.
how’s the shopping and amenities?
The drive to the nearest Sam’s Club or Costco is about 45 minutes, but there is an Ingles and Walmart in the town of Canton. The drive to the the Atlanta Heartsfield Airport can take up to 2 hrs. Also, Jasper and Canton are VERY close to the Tennessee border which makes frequent trips to Chattanooga easy. The Drennan’s are an outdoorsy bunch and love to spend time on the river. It is a much slower pace in Jasper, but it’s perfect for them and it may be perfect for you.
the numbers- average home sales price? cost of living? population?
Then entire Pickens county is about the size of Lawrenceville. Whereas, Gwinnett County is just under 1 million people and Hall County is 200,000+ residents. Just on population alone you can see that Pickens county has far fewer people.
While the lifestyles in these areas may be very different they both encompass the beauty of Georgia in their own ways. They do get snow and have snow days but not as frequently as Elijay or the Blue Ridge Mountains.
